- Pre-heat the oven to 185 °C.
- In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients for the apple mixture.
- In a baking dish, pour the apple mixture in with all the liquid.
- Cover and bake in the oven until the apple is soft and the sauce is bubbling. (about 45mins)
- Remove from the oven and let it cool completely at room temperature.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugar until a soft paste forms.
- Add the remaining ingredients and mix until a non-sticky dough forms.
- Place the dough between sheets of plastic wrap, flatten it to about 0.5 cm thick, and refrigerate it until dessert time.
- After dinner, preheat the oven to broil at 190 °C.
- Remove the dough from the fridge, place it over the cooled baked apple, and lightly score the top to resemble the classic pineapple bun.
- Brush with egg white and bake until golden brown, and serve hot!
