Crispy Garlic Salt and Pepper Tofu (避風塘椒鹽豆腐)

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g Firm Tofu
  • 5 sprays of olive or avocado oil
  • Seasonings:
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1 tablespoon five spice
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon sugar or Splenda
  • 1 tablespoon Himalayan sea salt 1 tablespoon chicken powder 1 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • Pepper Mix:
  • 1/2 cup white onion Chopped
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons minced ginger
  • 1/4 cup Red Pepper Chopped
  • 1/4 cup Green Pepper Chopped
  • 1/2 cup green onion chopped

Equipment

  • Wok or deep frying pan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Paper towels (for draining oil)
  • Slotted spoon / tongs
  • Knife & chopping board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Plate or serving tray

Instructions
 

  1. Cut Firm tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  2. Mix all seasonings in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Toss firm tofu into the seasoning to coat all sides.
  4. Place firm tofu on a sheet pan or air fryer basket and spray generously with olive or avocado oil.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  6. Meanwhile, chop pepper mix into fine dice.
  7. In medium-low heat, sauté onion, garlic, and ginger first until fragrant and soften with 2 tablespoons of olive or avocado oil.
  8. Add remaining ingredients and sauté until softened and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Toss and mix crispy tofu into the pepper mixture and sauté for 3 minutes and serve immediately.
